Hodge scandal. Accused of misapplying of federally insured funds are Ison Marcus, 61; his brother, Hy-man, 60, and Martin J. Rosene, SG.

Leon Marcus formerly was acting chairman of the Southmoor Bank and Trust Co. and Hyman was a former president and chairman. Rosene now is vice prest- dent. He is a son-in-law of Leon Marcus. The Southmoor Bank was he one in which Hodge, now in prison for 12-15 years for taking about l'j million of state funds, cashed fake state cheeks.

An Investigation of the bank was made by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. before the scandal in the office of Hodge, Republican state auditor, was discovered. The Inquiry led to a shakeup In the bank manaRement and lon Marcus repaid $155,543 on June 26, Frank J. McGarr, assistant U. S.

district attorney, said. The indictment charged diversion of bank Income from real estate loans into other sources between Jan. 1, 1953 and March 28, 1956. Lawrence, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate. Friends may call at the Wheelan Funeral Home after 4 Sunday afternoon. Mr. Marshall died Thursday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, Louisville, after a 10-day illness.

A native of Rock Island County, Mr. Marshall was born Aug. 5, 1KM, in Cordova, son of Lewis D. and Phoebe Alpha Cool Marshall. He moved to Rock Island with his family in 1006 and was graduated from Rock Island School in 1911.

On Feb. 5, 1915, he married Jean Fowler of Rock Island. For several years Mr. Marshall lived in Chicago and for the last 25 years resided at 4026 Richland Louisville. He was general sales manager of the Falls City Brewing Co.

H. MARSHALL I Mrs. W. H. Marshall, chairman and charter member of the Rock Island playground and recreation commission for 30 yean, and one of the founders of the Girl Scouts In this area, died at 1 this morning in her home.

She waa 95. A life resident of Rock Island, Mrs. Marshall, who resided at 1337 21st Rock Island, was the former Elise Denkmann, a daughter of the late Frederick C. A. Denkmann and Catherine Bloedel Denkmann, pioneers in the local saw mill and lumbe business.

Mrs. Marshall was born In Rock Island March 11, lSfil; Her parents were both natives of Germany. Mrs. Marshall wat graduated from Rock Island schools and Wel-lesley College, Wellesley, and then traveled extensively abroad and In the United States and its territories. On Sept.

5, 1893. she was married to William H. Marshall, who came to Rock Island from Ross-ville, 111., in 1S80, when he purchased the Harper House pharmacy. Mr. Marshall died Dec.

4, 1925. They were parents of a son, Robert Denkmann Marshall, who now resides in Beverly Hills, and a daughter, Mrs. John Shu-ler of Des Moines, the former Ann Catherine Marshall. Mrs. Marshall had a continued interest in children and young people.

She had been prominent in Sunday school work at Broadway Presbyterian Church since 1904, working in the primary department for many years. Many Sunday school pupils rough the years were given Bibles as gifts by her on their promotion from the primary division. Mrs. Marshall was a charter member of the Woman's Club of Rock Island and founded the woman's exchange sponsored by the civic department of the club and was honorary chairman of the department at the time of her death. When the Rock Island playground and recreation commission was organized In 1921, Mrs.

Marshall was, named chairman and served in that capacity until 1951, when she became chairman emeritus. The Marshall dramatic contest, held each year as a project of the commission, is named In her honor. She was Girl Sco it Council commissioner 1921 to 1935 and since had been chairman of the board and honorary commissioner. She was a member of the Tri-City Garden Club, of Helper: Circle of Kings Daughters and many civic committees. With her sisters and brothers, she provided the Denkmann Memorial Library at Augustana Col-lefe in honor of her parents.

Sisters and brothers of Mrs. Marshall included the late Mrs John J. Reimers of Davenport (Marie Antonette Denkmann). the late Mrs. T.

He was attempting to remove a cotter key with a hammer and chisel when a steel sliver struck him in the eye. It was necessary to remove the eye from the socket in order to remove the piece of steel, which had gone through the eyeball and had become lodged behind it.
