Moline dent. He is a son-in-law of Leon Marcus. The Southmoor Bank was the one in which ch Hodge, now in prisfor 12-15 years for taking about 90, million of state funds, cashed fake state checks. An investigation of the bank was made by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. before the scandal in the office of Hodge, Republican state auditor, was discovered.

The inquiry led to a shakeup in the bank management and Leon Marcus repaid $155,543 on June 26, Frank J. McGarr, assistant U. S. district attorney, said. The indictment charged diversion of bank income from real estate loans into other sources between Jan.

1, 1953 and March 28, 1956. Bank income involved was part of commissions paid by building contractors on loans from the bank, McGarr said. Valley, Geneseo Motorists Fined GENESEO Paul S. Yackley, justice of the peace, has imposed fines on several traffic violators during the past week. Charles A.

Perdue of Coal Valley was charged with operating a truck with an overload. He was fined $24 and costs. Franklin R. Biersdorf of Geneseo was charged with operating a vehicle without a driver's license. He was fined $25 and costs with the stipulation that $15 of the fine would be suspended if he took and passed a driver's examination within two weeks.

County Muscular Dystrophy Unit Plans Fund Drive The Rock Island County Chapter on Muscular Dystrophy last night set plans to hold its fund drive at the same time as the Scott County drive Nov. 25. Last night's meeting was the first for the organization since it was formed in September. Represented at the meeting were civic and fraternal organizations of Rock Island, Moline, East Moline nd Silvis, together with the fire departments of those cities. Stratton Claims Adlai Election Would Be Tragic JERSEYVILLE, Ill.

(P) Adlai Stevenson's election to the presidency would be a "tragedy" in view of his "thoroughly incompetent" leadership while governor of Illinois, Gov. Stratton charged Thursday. Stratton told a Republican campaign meeting here, at White Hall and at Hardin that Stevenson demonstrated his incompetence "as a leader of the people in three troubled Stevenson's election "would be almost unbelievable to us who have seen his administration in Illinois," Stratton said. JONTY MARSHALL JONTY MARSHALL Graveside services for Jonty L. Marshall, 62, of Louisville, formerly of Rock Island, will be at 11 Monday morning in Chippiannock Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Leland L.

Lawrence, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate. Friends may call at the Wheelan Funeral Home after 4 Sunday afternoon. Mr. Marshall died Thursday morning in St. Joseph's Hospital, Louisville, after a 10-day illness.

A native of Rock Island County, Mr. Marshall was born Aug. 5, 1894, in Cordova, son of Lewis D. and Phoebe Alpha Cool Marshall. He moved to Rock Island with his family in 1906 and was graduated from Rock Island High School in 1911.

On Feb. 5, 1915, he married Jean Fowler of Rock Island. For several years Mr. Marshall lived in Chicago and for the last 25 years resided at 4026 Richland Louisville. He was general sales manager of the Falls City Brewing Co.

Helen Misfeldt. He was born April 7, 1899, in Alexandria, Russia, the son of ter and Elizabeth Stahr. On July 17, 1919, he married Florence Balmer in East Moline. He was a retired toolmaker and mechanic. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, and St.

John's Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Peru. He resided in Moline the last five years. Surviving are two sons, Fred, Moline, and Arnold Amboy; three daughters, Mrs. Alvada Little, Atkinson; Mrs. Dorothy Pinter, Princeton, and Mrs.

Misfeldt; a brother, Alvin, Silvis, and 13 grandchildren, His wife, parents, a daughter and two sisters preceded him in death. SUNDBLADE INFANT Larry Kenneth Sundblade, 20- day infant of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Sundblade, Port Byron, died yesterday afternoon in Illinois Research Hospital, Chicago.

H. Marshall, chairman and charter member of the Rock Island playground and recreation commission for 30 years and one of the founders of the Girl Scouts in this area, died at 1 this mornin her home. She was 95. A life resident of Rock Island. Mrs.

Marshall, who resided at 1337 21st Rock Island, was the former Elise Denkmann, a daughter of the late Frederick C. A. Denkmann and Catherine Bloedel Denkmann, pioneers in the local saw mill and lumber business. Mrs. Marshall was born in Rock Island March 11, 1861.

Her parents were both natives of Germany. Mrs. Marshall was graduated from Rock Island schools and Wellesley College, Wellesley, and then traveled extensively abroad and in the United States and its territories. On Sept. 5, 1893, she was married to William H.

Marshall, who came to Rock Island from Rossville, in 1880, when he purchased the Harper House pharmacy. Mr. Marshall died Dec. 4, 1925. They were parents of a son, Robert Denkmann Marshall, who now resides in Beverly Hills, and a daughter, Mrs.

John D. Shuler of Des Moines, the former Ann Catherine Marshall. Mrs. Marshall had a continued interest in children and young ple. She had been prominent in Sunday school work at Broadway Presbyterian Church since 1904.

working in the primary department for many years. Many Sunday school pupils trough the years were given Bibles as gifts by her on their promotion from the primary division. Mrs. Marshall was a charter member of the Woman's Club of Rock Island and founded the woman's exchange sponsored by the civic department of the club and was honorary chairman of the department at the time of her death. When the Rock Island playground and recreation commission was organized in 1924, Mrs.

Marshall was, named chairman and served in that capacity until 1954, when she became chairman emeritus. The Marshall dramatic contest, held each year as a project of the commission, is named in her honor. She was Girl Scout Council commissioner 1921 to 1935 and since had been chairman of the board and honorary commissioner. She was a member of the Tri-City Garden Club, of Helper: Circle of Kings Daughters and many civic committees. With her sisters and brothers.

Mrs. Meyer died about 10 a.m. yesterday en route to the Hammond-Henry Hospital in an ambulance, after a lingering illness, The former Mabel Butters, daughter of Addison and Bertha Hamilton Butters, was born Sept. 14, 1897, in Putman County. She was married March 28, 1918, at Viola to Harley G.

Meyer. She was a former school teacher in Whiteside County, and at one time served as school director in Whiteside County. She was a member of the Eastern Star and of Trinity Lutheran Church of Moline. Surviving are the widower; her mother, Mrs. Bertha VanSickle of Montgomery; two daughters, Harlene at home and Mrs.

Ruth Chamberlain of Dixon; a son, Glenn who is serving in the Navy in the Pacific; a sister, Mrs. Maude Jones of Montgomery: and eight grandchildren, She was preceded in death by her father and three sisters. 3. The arraignment of a third Chicago man accused in the robbery was continued. Judge W. Lynn Parkinson delayed sentencing of Paul Gonzales, 37, and Henry M. Gargano, 24, pending an investigation by probation officers.

The arraionment of Louis De Luca, 25, was delayed to permit him to confer with his court-appointed attorney, Daniel R. Morgar of South Bend. All three are being held in the St. Joseph County jail. Gargano was returned to custody today after Judge Parkinson raised the bail bond of each of the men from $25,000 to $50,000.

Gonzales and De Luca had not been free on bail. De Luca was arrested in Chicago Sept. 18, a few days after the others had been arrested. The only money recoverd from the robbery was $2.494 found when De Luca was arrested.
