in ing ing Ball to 30. A4 The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus Monday, February 13, 2017 Obituaries EAST MOLINE Lila Smith Lila M. Crotty: Smith, 91, of East Moline, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.

Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary Crematory, 6601 Moline. Visitation will be from noon to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Dementia Society of America. Lila was born on June 21, 1925, the daughter of Elmer and Verna Concannon Burkholder.

After her father's death, her mother married Steve Colaff, and together they raised Lila. Lila married Gilbert Crotty 1948 in Peoria. He preceded her in death in 1969. She later met Jack H. Smith at the Col Room in Davenport and married him on May 26, 1979.

He preceded her in death on Nov. 2012. She was an only child, growup and living in Peoria until after she was married and had four children of her own. She then moved to Moline and then to East Moline in 1962, where she lived until moving the Lighthouse in 2009. She was a homemaker until 1968 when she started selling Sarah Coventry jewelry on the home party plan.

She was successful at that and became the district manager in the Q-C area. She then worked as a sales associate at Petersons, now Von Maur. Lila member of Christ Methodist Manited Church in East Moline, where she volunteered to help answered the phone one day a week. She was active in Kings Daughters in Moline. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to several groups.

She and Jack also enjoyed taking walks by the river and at the mall. She always enjoyed havlunch or shopping with her daughter. Cindy, on Fridays for many years. Lila and Jack loved to go to Florida in January for a month or so to get away from the cold and visit some family and friends along the way. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making many gifts for family and friends.

Lila will always be remembered as a kind, caring, friendly and sweet person a natural at socializing. She was a great cook and a wonderful mom. Survivors include children, Mike (Cindy) Crotty, Moline, David (Mary) Crotty, Atkinson, and Cindy (Randy) Bush, East Moline; stepchildren, Alan Smith, Silvis, Kathy Wilson, East Moline, and Jack A. (Heather) Smith, Moline; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and son, Gary Crotty.

Memories may be shared online at esterdahl.com. AREA Arthur 'Art' Landgren Arthur "Art" William Land- gren died peacefully at home on Feb. 9, 2017, in Port Byron, at the age of 70. Art was born in Vietnam. Nov.

17, 1946, in Joliet, to Clara Ptaszynski and Arthur William Landgren and he was raised in Lemont, Ill. He served in the Army Art worked for Mack Truck in Bettendorf, for 21 years and was a master mechanic. Most recently, he was an associate of Big River Custom in Port Byron. A dog magnet, Art often collected strays and always had a canine companion. He was a great friend, always there to give a helping hand.

Art loved to travel and had friends across the country. He was happiest on a motorcycle with the wind in his beard. Art is survived by his children, Sue (Paul) Milburn, of Prophetstown, Rachel Hart, of Davenport, and Lesley (Corey) Coussens, of Bettendorf, his brother, Robert Landgren, of Lemont; and his sister, Faye (Louis) Voltarel, of Fort Myers, Fla. Terri Wood There is a celebration in heaven as Terri L. Darnell Wood, 50, of Cambridge, entered into her eternal reward on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center, Silvis. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at the Cambridge United Methodist Church. The Rev.

D. K. Grooms and the Rev. Dr. Christopher Ritter will officiate.

Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Cambridge. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday morning at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Terri Wood Memorial Fund. Stackhouse Moore Funeral Cremation Services, Cambridge, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Terri Lynn Darnell was born July 20, 1966, in Rock Island, the daughter of William and Karen DeShane Darnell. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1984. Terri went to LRM College in Litchfield, where she received her training as a missionary. She went to India, Africa and Spain with her missionary work. She was a member of the Cambridge Church of God, serving on the praise and worship team and also as the events coordinator.

Terri was a true woman of God. She always helping any way she could. Her kids were her life. She cherished being a mommy. Those surviving are her three beautiful children, John, Joezett and Raynesha; her father, William Darnell, Cambridge; a sister and brother-in-law, Jodi and Jeff Waldo, Geneseo; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Paula Darnell, Ohio, Scott and Kim Darnell, Ohio, and Gordon and Annie Darnell, Cambridge.

Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Her grandparents and her mother, Karen Darnell, preceded her in death. 11, 2017, at home. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the family. Donald Piepho Donald A. Piepho, 83, of Geneseo, was called to his Savior on Friday, Feb.

10, 2017, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Luther an Church, Edford Township, Geneseo. The Rev.

Christopher Bushre will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery Visitation for Don will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to St.

John's Lutheran Church. Vandemore Funeral Home Crematory, Geneseo is assisting the family with the arrangements. Don was born on June 14, 1933, in Gary, the son of Arthur and Iva Miner Piepho. He graduated from Hebron High School and went on to Valparaiso University graduating with an engineering degree. He proudly served our country in the U.S.

Navy Seabees. He was united in marriage to Faye C. Johnson on Aug. 24, 1957, in Chicago. Don had been employed as an engineer for Caterpillar Co.

for 38 years, working in several of their locations; he retired in 1993. Don loved and was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he was active in all church functions. He was an avid woodworker and Cubs fan. Survivors include his wife, Faye; daughters, Donna (Jack) Holdridge, Shoreline, Judith (John) Wiegle, Muscatine, Iowa, and Nancy (Steven) Edgar, Seattle; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Robert (Jane) Piepho, Wadsworth, Ohio, and Dale Piepho, St.

10, 2017, at UnityPoint HealthTrinity Rock Island. Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Matthew Kamprath will offici ate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Dawn Marie Bagger was born May 14, 1950, in Chicago, the daughter of Virgil and Jacqueline Norton Bagger. She graduated from Bogan High School in Chicago before attending Northland College, Ashland, Wis. She received a bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University Dawn was a generous spirit. She loved helping people, whether through her work at Moline High School or later at Partners in Job Training or in her church at First Lutheran Church, Moline, where she had been active in the music department and sang in the choir for many years, She also was very artistic, especially in sewing, quilting and cooking.

She loved to make things or food for others to enjoy. Dawn is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Justin Griffin, Streamwood, and Diane and Lynn Buck, Romeoville, two grandchildren, Ann Griffin and Connor Griffin; brother, Richard Smith, Seattle; and many cousins. Blum, 87, of Geneseo, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society, Geneseo. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Donald Hunt Funeral services celebrating the life of Donald S. Hunt, 79, of Aledo, will be Thursday at noon at College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Visitation is Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Millersburg, or College Avenue Presbyterian Church. Speer Funeral Home, is assisting the family. Don died on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Donald Scott Hunt was born on March 11, 1937, in Aledo, to Herald T.

and Cora Weilbaker Hunt. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1955, the first class to graduate from the new Aledo High School, and from Lincoln Barber College in 1959. Don and Sally Schreiber were married on May 3, 1959, at the Aledo United Methodist Church. Don was a barber for 52 years at various Aledo locations, starting in 1959, semiretiring in 1999, and lastly working out of his home until January 2011. Don served with the U.S.

Army Reserves for six years and was a former member of the Aledo Jaycees, Aledo Exchange Club, Aledo Chamber of Commerce, Aledo Main Street and the Oak Ridge Cemetery Board. He was currently a member of the Mercer County Historical Society, where he enjoyed making rope and participating in history events during the fifth grade spring tours. Don was a former member of the United Presbyterian Church, Aledo, and a current member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, having served as elder, deacon and also as an adult Sunday School class leader. Vegetable gardening was one of Don's favorite hobbies, along with an extensive collection of Louis L'Amour books. He and his family enjoyed many years of boating and water skiing on the Mississippi River and on Lake of the Ozarks vacations.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and, in his younger years, played 4-H and church league softball. Those left to cherish Don's memory include his wife, Sally; daughter, Angela Dunaway, of Arlington, Texas; son, Kevin (Barb) Hunt, of Gurnee, grandchildren, Antronn Dunaway and Ryan and Hannah Hunt; brother, Frazier Hunt, of Aledo; sister, Sue Ellen (Dan) Salomone, of North St. Paul, sistersin-law, Ella Mae (Jerry) Baker, of Aledo, and Betty (Joel) Feigenbaum, of Bainbridge Island, three nephews; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, David Bryans; and a sister-in-law.

Janice Smirles Janice Eugenia Smirles, 79, of Davenport, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Genesis Medical Center, East, Davenport. Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary Crematory, Moline. MILAN Florence Lude Florence Ann Lude, 77, of Milan, was welcomed home by her merciful Savior on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Matthew Luther ran Church, 115 12th Ave. Milan. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m.

at the church. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. The Rev. Gregory Michel will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or to the Transportation Service at Project Now.

WheelanPressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, is assisting the family. The fourth of seven children, she was born at home in Coyne Center to Frazier E. and Florence Agnes McConnell Watson on Dec. 19, 1939. She met her future husband, Frank A.

Lude on that same homestead when he and his family came from Davenport to pick berries. Their fathers worked on the Rock Island Arsenal together. He was 18, and she was 12. They married Nov. 15, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport.

They enjoyed 40 years of trials, troubles, faith and laughter together. Frank joined the Lord on Sept. 29, 1998. In her adolescence, she was a member of the Coyne Center Clearviewers 4H Club. Later, she served as the publicity chair for the Chautauqua Council Girl Scouts; president of the Coyne Center Grade School PTA; member of the Black Hawk Home Bureau; den mother of Cub Scouts; and board member of Sherrard Band Boosters; she opened her home to the young people of the QuadCity Knights Drum and Bugle Corps.

Florence was a faithful servant to her Lord. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, and many of its groups, including LWML, choir, and Altar Guild. She served in many capacities, including as a Sunday school teacher, VBS1 teacher and superintendent and as co-chair of the wedding funeral committee. She and Frank were youth group leaders for a few years.

Florence and her family owned and operated Hidden Lake Campground in Edgington, from 1971 to 1977. She also worked as a cashier at Convenient Food Mart in Milan and Mother Hubbard's Cupboard in Rock Island. She reminisced often about how much she enjoyed taking care of her customers. Despite all the outside activities and jobs, what brought Florence the most happiness was a house full of people. She loved kids of all ages, and everyone was welcome in her home.

If someone left the suptable hungry, it was only because they were shy. Survivors include children, Cynthia J. (John) Leonard, Rock Island, Victoria J. Lude, Milan, Frank F. (Amy) Lude, Vancouver, and Susan R.

(Gerald) De Loose, Sherrard; granddaughters, Samantha J. (Nicholas) Dolan, Moline, Emma Lude, London, UK, Gina De Loose (fiance; Nathan Vanderploeg), Sherrard, Jennifer Lude (fiance Dakota Brandom), Springfield, and Kennedy De Loose, Sherrard; great-grandson, Noah Dolan, Moline; siblings, Connell (Jo Ann) Watson, Milan, Ramona (Richard) McMeekan, Viola, Karen Burton, Wataga; Frazier "Bud" (Lois) Watson, Sherrard, and Harold (Bonnie) Watson, Coal Valley; and 22 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Lillian Watson and Roberta Patterson. Memorials may be made to either the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association. Dorothy was born April 16, 1938, in Rock Island, a daughter of Clifford and Velma Fisher Sisco.

She married William L. Simmons on May 16, 1966, in Rock Island. In earlier years, Dorothy was employed at Servus Rubber, Rock Island. Following her marriage, she was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker for her family. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all.

She enjoyed spending winters in Texas with William, where they enjoyed hitting all the flea markets and fishing. She also enjoyed camping with family and friends in Alpha. Dorothy was passionate about going to yard sales and growing flowers at home. Her favorite pastime was spoiling her grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, William, of Milan; children (and spouses), Sadie Carlson, New Windsor, Bill (Joyce) Simmons, Illinois City, John (Kathy) Simmons, Kansas, Scott (Karen), Milan, and Kurt (Jeanette) Simmons, Alexis; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Dunn, Spokane, brothers, Harry Sisco, Anamosa, Iowa, Calvin (Sue) Sisco, Payson, Utah, and Clarence (Chris) Sisco, Norriton, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother and father; son, Kevin; son-in-law, Paul Carlson; brother, Harold Sisco; and sister, Florence Jinks. John was born Jan. 16, 1945 in Hazen, the son of Elwood and Sallie Long Wheatley. He married Bernadette Feyen on July 12, 1961, in Rock Island. John worked for International Harvester and retired in 1995. He was employed parttime at Lamco Slings and Rig.
